Socktober

This week at Elboya school was a busy one and a short one! All grade three's worked hard and accomplished a lot!

Our Socktober challenge is well under way!  Thank-you to those families who have kindly donated well needed socks and underwear!  Our collection is growing.  How many more can we collect by the end of the month?

In Social Studies, we worked on an interactive Land and Resources map of Peru! As a whole group we read out loud information from our social studies texts book and discussed the important information to then make jot notes. By the second and third round, they were really getting the hang of it!

Our poem of the week was a HAIKU. The Haiku is a Japanese verse in three lines.  The 17 syllables are a compressed form which is a composition in praise of nature.
Our Haiku Poems are composed around their Silhouettes!
Here is a little sample of some rough copies:

In art we have been learning about what a silhouette is.  This is what we found out:
A silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, with its edges matching the outline of the subject.
Every grade three student drew a silhouette onto a water colour background.  They turned out amazing.  They really took their time to add thoughtful details.  The art work will be revealed next week!  Stay tuned! We will post EVERYONES Masterpiece!

We ended the week off with YOGA in the classroom.  The theme was STAR WARS.  It was a wonderful way to start off the morning! You can do this at home! Cosmic yoga for kids

Have a wonderful weekend Grade three families!

Love,
Mrs. Sprau and Mrs. J
p.s. Ms. Hardacre will be back on Monday!
